Ann Wason Moore says major parties taking Gold Coast for granted

"With the Gold Coast considered the conservative capital of Australia, the major parties all but ignore us. Here’s why embracing the independent movement might pay-off."

"Analysis of $2.8 billion of Commonwealth grants, which were distributed across the country prior to the 2022 election, showed that we have been receiving far from our fair share. With 151 electorates, $2.8 billion distributed equally would mean about $18.5 million per seat"

"But what did we get? Well, Moncrieff received just $1.6m, Fadden $1m and McPherson a piddling $900k."

"Compare this to marginal areas, where the seat of Dickson was granted a whopping $43.6m, and the also ‘unsafe’ Braddon received $83.4m. I’m not saying this is right or fair, but if this is the way the game is played, let’s at least be a player." ...

"Now, far be it from me to tell anyone who to vote for – especially as we don’t yet know who these independents might be – but I’m in full support of giving our major parties a run for their money. Let’s make them pay us some attention, because how dare anyone take this city for granted?"

"Nobody puts the Gold Coast in a corner."
