We are a dynamic community organisation working to elect a federal community independent for the southern Gold Coast seat of McPherson.
McPherson has been a safe seat for decades. Ann Wason Moore of the Gold Coast Bulletin said:
"With the Gold Coast considered the conservative capital of Australia, the major parties all but ignore us. Here’s why embracing the independent movement might pay-off"
Let's make the Gold Coast Count!
Our organisation was formed off the back of the McPherson Matters Listening Report. This was a community project run over 7 months, with 49 kitchen table conversations and 250 participants. The big outcomes of this report were:
- the community did not feel represented by the major parties
- we need to tackle housing affordability and the cost of living
- deep concern about the challenges for younger generations
- we need integrity and honesty in our government
- we want leadership who thinks long-term and tackles climate resiliency
To tackle these big issues, we need an independent member who will represent the community at a federal level.
McPherson Independent has attracted an amazing group of people who are working to bring the vision of community democracy to life.
Some of the great events we have held so far include:
McPherson Independent launch with David Pocock - a wonderful night with independent Federal senator David Pocock and Briony Benjamin at Robina's TAFE Campus.
New Wave of Politics - a great panel discussion with journalist/author Brook Turner and Queensland's community independent Suzi Holt at the Varsity's Brooklyn Wine + Tapas.
Solar Revolution - an amazing panel discussion with Tim Buckley and Gold Coast renewable energy leaders at Currumbin RSL.
Please get involved. It's a tonne of fun, and you will meet some amazing people.
Together we can run and win!
